World Book Day - Pyjama day!!!

We had lots of fun on World Book Day. We dressed up in our pyjamas and brought our favourite book to school. We drew the cover of our favourite book in our copy and we showed our book to the person sitting beside us.
Our magic of music lesson was inspired by the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We did a rap about the story and listened to different music notes high (like baby bear), middle (like Mammy Bear) and low (like Baby Bear). It was so much fun.

We went upstairs to the reading room with the cushions and we brought blankets and torches from home. We turned off the lights and had fun reading our books in the dark with our torches. Then teacher read us some stories and we had fun relaxing.

The big girls from 5th class came down after lunch to read stories for us.

We did some beautiful writing in our copies.

It was a great day!!!!!!

Travel and Transport

We made love bugs for our families for Valentines Day.

Our theme for February was travel and transport.

In Aistear  we had fun playing with the cars, we made vehicles in junk art, we painted vehicles at our creative station and we made rockets inspired by the poem ‘I’m a Little Rocket’. We also listened to the poem ‘The Little Painted Bus’ and did beautiful drawings using oil pastels.

We had fun in the airport in our role play area. We had fun checking people in at the check in desk, labelling the bags, going through security, taking out money and going on the aeroplane.

Melissa’s Mammy from room 1 works with Aerlingus so she came to talk to rooms 1, 2 and 3. She told us about the work that she does and about what happens in the airport.

For our morning activities  we wrote the names of different vehicles and drew pictures at our writing table, we cut out and sorted shoes into sets, we practiced our numbers and letters using playdough, we made fabric and fibre boats, we had fun playing with the cars and ramps, and we are informally learning about weight. We had fun putting items into the bucket balance and we had to see how many cubes/teddies it took to balance the buckets. Our favourite part was that we got to play with Lucky!

We wrote the names of different vehicles in our copies and drew pictures. We are getting so good at our writing J

We did 3d line sculptures for art inspired by the poem ‘Larry the line’ didn’t we do a wonderful job.

We learned about Pancake Tuesday and we learned a little rhyme. Teacher brought us in pancakes and we put  lemon and sugar on them, they were delicious.

January in room 3

For January our theme was Winter. We learned all about the weather, animals, clothes and trees in winter. We did beautiful chalk pictures.  We made beautiful fabric and fibre hats in art.

We read lots of winter stories. Our favourite story was ‘William’s Winter Wish’. It was a lovely story about a snow globe and we used this story as inspiration for our own snow globes. Didn’t we do a great job.

We also enjoyed the story ‘The Gruffalo’s Child and we had a light puppet show during Aistear. We made the characters from the story smaller and bigger using a torch. It was great fun.

We started using our new purple copies and writing sentences because we are getting so good at our writing now.

We are learning to read tricky words too. We have learned the words I, the, a, not.

We have been learning new sounds since our Christmas holidays. It is important to practice our sounds and letters every night for homework. Our newest sounds are f, b, ai, j, oa and ie.

In our morning activities we cut out paper snowflakes , sequenced the nursery rhyme Incy Wincy Spider,  we cut out roosters that we painted in Aistear, we played with the count and find boards, did some work on our phonics and used play dough to help with our letters and numbers. We also created our own spiders webs inspired by the artist Piet Mondrain.

We did orienteering and did a shape hunt in PE. Most of us are really good at recognising the shapes square, rectangle, triangle and circle. We also got a chance to create our own games in PE. We worked with a partner and got a cone, hoop and a beanbag. Here are some pictures of us. Teacher was so proud of us because we did a wonderful job.

We learned about Chinese New year. We listened to a story about how all the animals had a race and the12 animals to win the race got a year named after them. Most of us are rabbits and some of us are dragons. 2017 is the year of the rooster so we did some beautiful rooster art.
