March in room 3

Sr Mary came in to our class on Ash Wednesday to put ashes on our foreheads. As she put the ash on our foreheads she said ‘God loves you very much’. We practiced saying it together. We promised that we would help our Mammies and Daddies during lent and be very kind to others.

For Aistear this month we had fun playing with the animals in the small world area, we made animals out of playdough, we played in the sand and teacher put water into the sand, we had junk art and in our creative station we painted paper plates in the rainbow colours and then cut out a spiral and made a pot of gold, we also had fun with cotton buds and made beautiful spring themed dot paintings and made beautiful cherry blossom trees. We had fun exploring magnets and we sorted items into sets - those that were magnetic and those that weren't magnetic. We are also having fun in the Home Corner in our Role Play Area.

We had our ceolchoirm for seachtain na Gaeilge. We sang the song ‘Chuaigh mé go dtí an bhfeirm’ and said the rhyme ‘Dhá éinín dheasa’ with rooms 1 and 2. We did a great job.
The whole school sang the pop song 'Sioraí Spraoi' and we joined in with the chorus and the actions.

We listened to some celtic music and responded to the music through movement (clapping, tapping our feet and dancing) . We talked about the different instruments we could hear in the music and how the music made us feel.
We are busy practicing our Irish dancing for our céilí.

For morning activities we cut out and coloured shamrocks and we made shamrock hats for Saint Patricks Day, we sequenced seeds growing, wrote spring words at our writing table, used the bucket balances for weight and practiced our playdough letters and numbers. We made beautiful mothers day cards for our mammy's.

We had fun doing a science experiment about floating and sinking. We all held the objects and guessed if they would float or sink, then we the put objects into water to test it out.
We found that apples float, the cork, the feather, the lollypop stick and the big plastic bottle all  float on top of the water. We tested plastic and wooden blocks and found that both the plastic and wooden blocks float. We also found that plastic and wooden spoons float but metal spoons sink. Anything with metal in it sunk to the bottom even a plastic  peg with a little bit of metal in it! The scissors, key, pin and metal spoon all sunk to the bottom aswell as crayons and a marble.  It was a lot of fun!
We sorted the objects into sets. We discussed heavy and light and if this had an impact on whether something floated or sunk. We tested different sized blocks.
.We drew pictures in our copies of things that float and sink.

We went on a Spring Walk. We saw the buds on the trees and we saw lots of pretty spring flowers. We saw two squirrels playing in the trees. We saw some shamrock growing in the school garden. The weather is getting a bit warmer.

We had fun listening to traditional Irish music with Catherine. We responded to 3 Irish Reels and the Rock Song 'Brewing up a storm' by The Stunning.
